The Nokia Lumia 1020 is a fantastic camera that comes with a phone.
The camera is the best that comes with a smart phone – it has a 41MP PureView camera with Xenon flash. This feature will mean that you can take superior quality pictures even when the ambient light is weak. Moreover the 41MP feature means that the camera uses more pixels than a standard 5MP camera to capture the same view in 5MP format. This provides you with pictures of greater clarity, contrast, and brighter colors.
However, the better camera makes the Nokia Lumia 1020 considerably bulkier than its competitors. The phone weighs 158 grams, is 10.4 mm thick and cannot be laid flat on its back because of the bump caused by the camera. Holding and handling the phone for conversations is also a bit cumbersome since you have to decide if you want to cover the camera with your fingers when you talk or just hold the phone by its sides.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 offers respectable voice quality and decent browsing speeds. However, its Windows Phone 8 platform is not supported by many apps such as Instagram. This is a pity since the photos you can take with the superior camera cannot be instantly posted on Instagram. The Windows Phone 8 tile system can be resized and grouped to your convenience. Moreover, you can tap the screen twice to turn it on or you can just
flip it over to shut it off.
While these are fantastic features, the Windows Phone 8 does not let alert you to new updates in a single place. Instead, you need to check each app tile for updates. This can be cumbersome if some of the apps are not visible on the screen. Most Android and iOS phones win over the Nokia Lumia 1020 in this as you can check for updates at a single place on the top of the screen or using a drop down menu.
The Nokia Lumia 1020’s best feature is its camera. However, even this cannot replace your DSLR as it does not have all the features that it a DSLR has. Moreover, while the Lumia 1020’s camera is great for still pictures, its large file size can slow down the starting of the camera and saving of pictures. This means that you might miss the opportunity for great candid shots and action photos. However, if you manage to take a photo using the Nokia Lumia 1020 you can edit, crop, and post it from the phone itself. This is a great feature for those who are not professional photographers but would like to capture events and scenes and share them with friends instantly.
Disappointing in the App Department
The Nokia Lumia 1020 is priced a bit high for the smart phone features it offers. It is standout for those who use basic smart phone features such as talking, messaging, and checking emails. However, those who would like to play around with apps will find it disappointing because many apps have yet to be customized for the Windows Phone 8.
The decision to purchase the Nokia Lumia 1020 will depend on the use you plan to put it to. If you love taking photos of still life and sharing them on the spot and do not use your phone to access apps such as Vine and Instagram, this phone may be suitable for you. Its best feature is the camera, but this renders the phone bulky and cumbersome to use, especially if you are used to the sleeker smart phones that are now available.
